Is the Independence of the Seas the largest ship afloat?
Answer :
Hi Laura,
All these ships are currently in service.
Knock Nevis 564,763 tons displacement. 1,504 ft (458 m) long. Supertanker. No longer actually at sea -used for oil storage, but still in service.
Prevously named Jahre Viking.previously Seawise Giant.
TI Oceania. 441,600tons displacement. 1,245 ft (380 m ) Supertanker
Berge Stahl. 364,768 tons displacement. 1,125 ft (343 m ) Bulk cargo ship
Brasil Maru 327,180 tons. 1,115 ft (340 m) Ore carrier
Emma Mærsk 170,974 displacement. 1,302 ft (397 m) Container ship.
Independence of the Seas 160,000 gross tons. 1,112 feet (339m) long - Cuise ship.
Freedom of the Seas 160,000 gross tons. 1,112 feet (339m) long – Cruise ship
Liberty of the Seas 160,000 gross tons. 1,112 feet (339m) long – Cruise ship.
RMS Queen Mary 2. 148,528tons. 1,132 ft (345 m) Ocean liner
Nimitz class (9 /10 in service) 102,000 tons. 1,040 ft (317 m) Aircraft Carrier.
All the above ships are in service, so you decide. Do we decide by tonnage or length. Also There are Gross tons, Gross register tons, Deadweight, displacement etc several ways of measuring tonnage. So it's almost impossible to simply decide which is the biggest. You CAN ask which is the biggest cruise ship, or which is the biggest warship, or Ore Carrier, as long as the tonnages are calculated by the same method.
Answer :
The largest ship afloat today is the oil tanker Jahre Viking (originally called Seawise Giant). It measures 1,504 feet (458 meters) long and 225 feet (69m) wide.
Answer :

at 160,000 tons.

at 261,000 tons.

Anyone know the price of a beer on the Independence of the seas cruise ship ?
Anyone know the price of a beer on the Independence of the seas cruise ship ?
Answer :
They will no doubt charge in US dollars.....most cruise ships prices are less than they are in the UK....but no idea exactly how much they would charge...maybe $4 to $5 a pint.
Answer :
Most of the Royal Caribbean ships offer a discount on beer by the "bucket". It's basically a six pack on ice in a plastic pail.
But, if memory serves, the individual price was about $6 domestic, and $7 imported.
Be aware that there are MANY things that are included in the cost of your voyage, but many others that are not, including new fuel supplements.
The price of your cruise vacation includes:
Ship accommodations
Ocean transportation
Most meals onboard
Some beverages onboard
Most entertainment onboard
The following services are not included in the cruise price:
Dining in Specialty Restaurants such as Portofino
Dining in Johnny Rockets (Where applicable)
Spa and Salon services
ShipShape Fitness Classes (i.e. kickboxing, pilates, yoga and spinning)
Golf Simulator
Gambling (Including Bingo)
Art Auction
Any purchases made in the gift shops onboard
Shore excursions
Photographs
Video Arcade
Medical Services
Internet Access
Transfers (Unless guest has purchased our air/sea package)
Laundry and Dry Cleaning Services
Ship to Shore Telephone calls
Gratuities
Alcoholic Beverages
Non-Alcoholic Beverages (excluding water, lemonade and iced tea)
All prices are per-person, based on a double occupancy of the stateroom and are quoted in U.S. Dollars unless otherwise noted. The cruise fares quoted also do not include any applicable government taxes, fees, or surcharges that may be assessed by any governmental agencies. Such assessment is subject to change without notice at any time whether or not you have a confirmed booking under deposit or if you have made a final payment.
Note: For all North America reservations, a fuel supplement of $8 per person, per day for the first 2 guests in a stateroom (subject to a max. of $112 per person) applies; each additional guest in the stateroom will be charged $3 per person, per day (subject to a max. of $42 per person).

What are some higlights of independence of the seas cruise ship?
going on it dec 12th and want to know some good things to do ikm 14 btw
Answer :
Independence of the Seas joins the ranks of Royal Caribbean’s fleet as the third Freedom-class ship offering innovative amenities and a huge selection of entertainment and dining venues. Features such as an interactive water park with FlowRider surf simulator, cantilevered whirlpools that extend 12 feet beyond sides of ship and a full-size Everlast boxing ring are just a few of the exciting additions in store for guests. Stroll down the Royal Promenade for shopping, themed bars and lounges and restaurants. Engage in a little friendly competition on the nine-hole miniature golf course, scale the rock-climbing wall or spend a few pampering hours in the day spa. Along with the main dining room, the ship’s eateries include specialty restaurants such as Sorrento’s Pizzeria, Johnny Rockets ’50s-style diner, Portofino Italian Restaurant and Chops Grille, plus Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. A variety of themed bars and lounges -- Boleros Latin club, Schooner Bar, Vintages wine bar and the elegant Champagne Bar, just to name a few -- provide hours of entertainment, or you can tempt lady luck in the dazzling casino or watch a spectacular musical stage production in the five-story Alhambra Theatre. Every cabin contains a flat-screen TV, sofa and private bath, and Wi-Fi capability is available throughout the ship.

Has anyone ever cruised on the Independence of the Seas?
What are your experiences?
Answer :
I have not cruised on the Independence but I have cruised on the Freedom of the Seas which is identical. The Freedom Class ships are identical but have different names and color schemes and decor. They are the exact same size, and all have the same features.
All three ships have the rock climbing wall, the "flowrider" where you can surf right on ship, an ice skating rink, a fabulous free Ice Capades type ice show that you should not miss (tickets are free but you have to go to a designated place to get them.), a mini-golf course, a H2O Zone water park for kids, the best gymnasium on any ship, several pools and hot tubs on the pool deck, and a solarium (covered area) for adults only.
The ship has a mall down its center with shops and eating places, a casino, a show room, and a bunch of lounges with a variety of music, and a disco that's really unusual because its in an unusual location.
We enjoyed our cruise on it and do recommend it and that's why we'll be cruising the Freedom Class again, next time on the Liberty. The ship is huge but even with 4,000 passengers it doesn't seem crowded. It took us about 30 minutes to get through the checkin line and board the ship.
A couple good things about the ship, as far as crowds are concerned, is the H2O Zone is a kids water park area where the youngsters can enjoy the water. Then there is the regular pool and then an adults only pool and hit tub. So if you have kids there is a place for them to enjoy but if you don't there are places for adults only.
The kids also have Adventure Ocean which is an area of the ship just for them that has a professionally trained staff person to supervise them in activities. It includes a teen disco that is open until 2:00 AM for all of the teens to use.
The Freedom and Liberty ships do pretty much the same itinerary rotating their itinerary between Eastern and Western Caribbean each week. So no matter which you you go on you can get almost the exact same thing. The Independence, as I understand it right now, will be permanently stationed in Europe. RC also plans to move the Freedom's home port from Miami to Port Canaveral next year and move the Mariner of the Seas (which home ports there now) to Los Angeles, Ca.
The Eastern Caribbean is usually St Thomas, St Maarten, and maybe another island like San Juan or Tortolla. The Western Caribbean is usually Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. Then both itineraries usually always include Royal Caribbean's private island, Labadee, Haite.
Labidee is in my opinion THE best private island. It's huge and has a free tram to take you around the island to the various beaches and activities. It has multiple beaches, an ocean water park, a zip line, and a lot of water related activities like snorkeling, ocean kayaking, jet ski and para sailing.
Yes I do recommend the ship for adults and especially for kids.
